The backstory to this haunting song? Loreena McKennitt wrote this as a tragic tribute to her husband-to-be, Ronald Rees-- who went sailing at sunset, and never returned. His body was found days later.
Loreena, when interviewed: "The feeling is still so intense and so severe that in one way nothing can take it away. But I also believe that life goes on and you have the choice of how you spend your time. Similarly, I believe that when something inspires me, even something this tragic, then it's up to me to do something productive if I can."
